Progress on Boiler Smoke Box & Side Rods

(More photos coming soon!)

These photos (from late May and early June) show the old smoke box bottom being removed and the new one (fabricated in Muscle Shoals) being attached.

These photos (from late June) show an example of the work that will be done to all of the side rods.

The main rod (L1 shown here) attaches with a knuckle pin to the cross head.  The knuckle pin attaches to the side rod with a taper fit.  Here, a CNC mill is re establishing the taper for the knuckle pin.  New knuckle pins will then be machined to fit the new hole diameter on the correct taper.

This is the other end of the L1 side rod.  The bore is being machined for rod brass where it attaches to the crankpin on the main driver.
